  • MONUMENTAL CUSTOM WALL PANEL

    These aluminum panels are originally from a clothing boutique in Paris. The French have a propensity for re-imagining store interiors to keep up with the mode du jour. Their steady creative output leaves quite a bit of interesting discarded material in its wake. In this case, we snagged a collection of these sinuous, embossed panels from a French market and put them on display in our own store waiting for an imaginative reuse.

    This week’s challenge: How to recreate the essence of a Bali vacation through one often overlooked furniture piece, the headboard. An 18th century hand carved Burmese Temple Arch served as the focal point, with delicately hand carved detailing and scrolling floral motifs.

  • A FRESH SET OF FOUR FRENCH CHAIRS

    We discovered these armchairs in the corner of a market in Isle-Sur-La-Sorgue where the antiques are typically expensive and overly fancy. More formal than our typical taste, the skin of burlap, original stuffing and castors, and expertly carved curvaceous arms were too hard to resist.

    Restoring a Japanese Tansu

    In 2014, we bought this Japanese Tansu for a few reasons: it was completely intact structurally, had aged beautifully, and had a handsome face. It was very much like discovering a 1969 Corvette Stingray in a dusty barn out in the country; it’s filthy, but under that thick layer of grit you know the chrome and Monza red paint is waiting to shine.
