U.S. Calvary

This apron was inspired by the Buffalo Soldiers, originally members of the 10th Calvary Regiment formed in 1866, who
were nicknamed “Negro Soldiers” by the Native American tribes they fought in the Indian Wars. The horseman looks as if he will claw his
way out of the frame, with one hand on the edge and his head almost out of the frame, as his fellow Buffalo Soldier attempts to help this
soldier wounded by the Indian and Mexican attackers in the background. As the soldier on left mid ground raises his rifle toward the
Indian, the soldier on the right mid ground leans on the frame to reload. Glass seed beads (size 10/0) hand sewn on canvas. 10?20 different colors used. Pleated Velvet, Marabou Feather, and Turkey Feather.
