Pair of Chinese Scholar's Armchairs

These late Qing Dynasty official's hat armchairs are from Shanxi, China and date to the early 1900s. Though made during the Qing Dynasty (1644 - 1912), the design of the chairs is from the Ming Dynasty (1368 -1644). The chairs are made from Elm wood. The oxblood lacquer finish is gently worn in an appropriate way and the original antique patina is lovely.
