Pair of Late-Qing Dynasty Armchairs

These handsome elm chairs feature delicate scrollwork on their apron and are raised on traditional horse hoof feet. The chair is made of two parts: a waisted stool and an upper back-rest that resembles a screen panel. Stout and with a generous cut, these chairs have a substantial presence. In the homes of the wealthy they were a status symbol and given priority in the main room.
