This stunning bookshelf and dining table was the result of a true collaboration between homeowner, designer Mika Wegner Avni of Designs by Mika (, The Golden Triangle and a very skilled cabinet maker: Modern Industry (@modernindustrydesign).

Mika enlisted us to craft companion pieces for two old Chinese scholar cabinets her client already owned and loved. Hot to reference (and respect) the past while making something new and functional? The first step: wanting to. Then working through all the details; identifying customer needs, suggesting possibilities, sketching, revising, making CAD drawings and eventually cutting wood and metal, assembling, and installing the final product.

The furniture that comes out of this process is “pure”, much like traditional Chinese furniture. No veneers or shortcuts, just honest, solid materials that will last forever. The table has fractal legs that mimic the angles of Chinese cracked ice lattice (our favorite). The final design includes two large leaves that fold down, allowing the table to be tucked against a wall and used as a server during parties. The solid Walnut used for both pieces was lightly bleached and then sealed in a dull lacquer to produce a casual but luxurious feel.
