British Colonial Bookcase in Two Sections

$4,200.00
During the Colonial era, particularly between 1880 and 1940, a great deal of furniture was made in the British style in the workshops of Rangoon and Mandalay. These workshops were staffed primarily by Indian and Burmese craftsmen who had brilliantly mastered the British-European furniture system using local materials such as Teak. This book cabinet was probably used in an office and features an upper level for books and a lower level for storage. It could also have been a cupboard. The warm patina is original and as are all of the wooden parts. The door handles, which are authentic and correct for the period, appear to have been replaced.
