British Colonial Side Table

This long and classically-inspired serving table was made in the British style in Rangoon, Burma during the late 19th century. Colonial pieces are based on British or, more generally, European designs adjusted for use in the tropics. Since this furniture was made by non-Europeans, it often departs -charmingly -from established tradition. Colonial pieces make lavish use of tropical hardwoods and tend to have sturdier lines and interesting decoration. Once thought of as oddities, colonial pieces are now sought after as interesting cultural hybrids and prized for their quality and honest construction.
