These beautiful wooden greeting angel sculptures are from Thailand and was made from reclaimed teak wood.

Thai Buddhists, like members of many other faiths and cultures, believe that benign heavenly beings (angels) inhabit the heavens and intercede in the affairs of men on earth. According to the Thai, There are several principal types of angels, including greeting angels, angels of blessing angels and angels of judgment. Carved wooden angels are commonly found in temples, decorating entrances and flanking collections of Buddha sculptures on raised altars.

This angel is a greeting angel or Tepanom. This type of angel holds its hands clasped together in a respectful wai and wears a heavenly costume decorated with pointed winglets and a draped skirt. It was carved from Teak wood in Chiang Mai, Thailand.
