Chinese Elmwood Stool

Four round legs, joined by a X-form stretcher, support the Lingzhi-form seat. A motif seen throughout Chinese art, the lingzhi mushroom was believed to have sacred healing powers and represents longevity. The overall fit and shape likely influenced its later European cousin, the saddle stool.
