French Terracotta Confit Pot | c. 1900

In the south of France pots like this were used to keep and preserve food—typically meat. Provisions were stored inside, and the jar would be buried up to the edge of the colored glaze thus keeping the contents cool. This petite pot has loop handles, a mustard yellow glaze and has a burnt black coating.
