Marsh, Jones, & Cribb Antique Dining Table with Three Leaves

Marsh, Jones & Cribb were respected and famous furniture makers in the Victorian era. They were known for their quality craftsmanship, solid hardwoods, and designs ranging from gothic to arts and crafts. They began as cabinet makers, around 1850 in Leeds as Marsh & Jones of Leeds. They later expanded to London when the well-known cabinetmaker Henry Humphries Cribb sent his son to serve his apprenticeship with Marsh and Jones. After he had finished his apprenticeship in ca. 1867 he was offered a partnership in the company leading to the new and well-known name by today’s antique collectors, Marsh, Jones & Cribb.
They made antique furniture designed by well-known designers such as Charles Bevan and Talbert and many of these pieces were in famous exhibitions.
Their earlier designs were mostly known for their gothic appeal with Charles Bevan helping with these designs.
This substantial table is crafted from solid Walnut and comes with three original leaves. The table extends by a screw-drive winding mechanism operated by a crank, which is included. The massive legs sit on original porcelain casters. The style of the table is neo-gothic and it has a very substantial presence. The piece is in very good condition, with some restoration to the (hidden) extension mechanism underneath. We believe the piece dates to the 1880s. The table comes with custom pads that were made later. Dimensions reflect the table with all extensions attached.
