Vintage Hanau Sunlamp

In 1904 the first quartz lamp—with a UV output that most closely replicated natural sunlight—was created in the German town of Hanau. The laboratory invented the UV high-pressure lamp and would go on to become the Original Hanau brand, which launched in the 1920’s. The early products they produced merged technologically advanced bulbs with style elements of Art Deco and Bauhaus designs. This table lamp features a domed hood attached to an adjustable arm with wooden handle. The cylindrical housing has an ovular body with wrapped metal grate siding and retains its original timer knob, switch and manufacturing plaque. This industrial fixture has been rewired, retrofitted for modern bulbs and converted to a table lamp.
