Massive Chinese Ancestral Shrine and Cabinet | c. 1850

Made from black and red lacquered Elm, this shrine is multifunctional as both a display and storage cabinet. The top canopy is decorated with segmented cloud-form openwork panels and hanging spandrels with bulb shaped finials. The lower chest has four doors decorated with hand-painted flowers, foliage, and the Chinese character for longevity (Shòu).
