Southeast Asian Wooden Papier Mâché Mold

This large figural cast is used to create colorful children’s toys; the form is covered in layers of paper maché and allowed to dry. Once hardened, the shell is removed, resealed and decorated in bright colors with painted features. This particular mold—with movable arms, legs, and faint outline of a nose—makes ‘baby’ dolls.
