Southeast Asian Figural Carving

This Burmese “Greeting Angel” was originally placed at the entrance to a temple. The natural erosion from centuries of exposure to the elements has left it exquisitely worn; sharp jagged edges dissolve into soft rounded curves accentuated by angular and layered carving. Slight traces of facial features—which were once finely detailed—are still visible, along with remnants of white and red lacquer decoration. It has been mounted on contemporary wooden stand.
