Sudanese Anthropomorphic Totem | c. 1900

From the southern regions of the Sudan, this weathered post stands over four and a half feet tall and has naturalistically carved facial features. The head stands on a pillar-form body, which carved with alternating geometric shapes. Sculptures like these were often used to ward off bad energy or evil spirits.
