War Horse Terra Cotta by Mark Yee

$15,000.00
The war horse has been a symbol of power and freedom in China since before the Han Dynasty 2000 years ago. Large Central Asian horses were expensive and rare and allowed their riders to travel greet distances at astonishing speed. This war horse, swiftly sketched in black, is embedded within a tapestry of terra cotta, umber, and bright red. All of these colors feature prominently in Chinese culture since ancient times. As an artist, Mark Yee favors abstract compositions but with representational symbols embedded and partially covered by layers. As an American-born Chinese, Mark uses painting as a way to excavate and rediscover his Chinese ethnicity.
