Vietnamese Urn

This earthenware jar utilizes a lead-copper glaze that dates to China’s Han Dynasty. The design of the jar, with bold blue-green color and a floral central medallion is Chinese but adapted to Vietnamese preferences. The dragon motif in the central medallion is adapted from Chinese tradition. Vietnamese ceramics are quite similar to southern Chinese ceramics. Low-fired earthenware was most often used for water storage, holding plants and general decoration in gardens. Wear consistent with age and use.
